KARACHI: PTI MNA and TV presenter Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain died in Karachi on Thursday, Geo News reported, citing his servant Javed and hospital officials. He was 50 years old.
The PTI leader was found unconscious in his home and was taken to a private hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead.
According to Geo News, Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain felt uncomfortable in his chest last night but refused to go to hospital.
"His staff rushed to his room today after screaming in pain but the door was locked. Staff broke the door when they did not receive a reply from him and found him unconscious in his bed," the station reported.
SSP East Raheem Shirazi said they had received initial information about the PTI MNA at 1pm from one of his staff. The officer said he was staying with two of his officers.
"We are trying to contact his relatives as there was no one at home."
Shirazi said the Sindh Crime Scene police unit had been called to gather evidence as it was important to determine the cause of death.
"Police are investigating the matter in various ways. An autopsy will clear many things."
He told a television station that police would also find CCTV footage to determine the facts leading to his death.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the death of the PTI leader and searched his home in Khudadad Colony in Karachi.
Authorities have decided to make an autopsy as he died in mysterious circumstances.
‘The room was full of smoke’
In a statement sent to police, Mumtaz, one of Hussain's employees, said the electricity went off last night and the generator was running for two hours continuously.
The worker said he awoke suddenly with difficulty breathing and the room was filled with smoke from the generator.
"I came out of the house," he said, adding that, in the meantime, he heard the voice of Javed, the driver, saying that Hussain's condition was getting worse.
Mumtaz said, he and Javed tried to open the door but it was locked inside. He said when they entered the room Hussain was lying on a sofa with no movement in his body.
"After seeing the condition of Aamir Liaquat Hussain we informed the police and the rescue," he added.
The generator was delivered last week but was faulty and not working properly the last few days, he added.
Mumtaz said Hussain was scheduled to travel to Islamabad today.

Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain was born July 5, 1971 in Karachi. Hussain was first elected as a Member of the National Assembly by MQM ticket. He has served in the region as minister of religion during the presidency of former president General Musharraf.
She stayed at MNA from 2002 to 2007.
Later, Hussain joined the PTI and was elected MNA in the 2018 national elections.
NA session postponed
The session of the National Assembly was in full swing when Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf told lawmakers that he had received a sad report on the death of Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
He then announced that he would suspend the NA's immediate proceedings and adjourned the meeting until 5pm tomorrow.
Words of comfort come
Shortly after the news of the death of Dr. Aamir Liaquat was broadcast on television, words of condolence began to flow from all parts of the community.
Taking to Twitter, President Arif Alvi expressed his sadness and grief over Hussain's death. He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and his high position.
He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. The president prayed that Allah would give his family the strength to endure the loss.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his sorrow over his death and prayed for his forgiveness.
Speaking on Twitter, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed deep sorrow over Hussain's death.
"Aamir Liaquat Hussain lived a life of change from journalism to politics. He proved his mettle in various fields of life from writing and speaking," he wrote.
PTI chief and former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid also expressed his sadness and sympathy for his death.
